Professor Arturo Villarreal on Jose Manuel Gonzales, Mayor of San Jose

Social time 6:15-6:30; presentation 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  This talk will be presented by author and professor, Arturo Villarreal.

Jose Manuel Gonzales was a poblador/settler and the second alcalde/mayor of San Jose from 1785-1789.  He was an Apache, so his accomplishment was remarkable in the Spanish colonial era. Professor Arturo Villarreal will share with us his research in writing the book and about the social and political role of indigenous people in New Spain.  Villarreal teaches Ethnic Studies and Anthropology at Evergreen Valley College. Copies of his book will be available for purchase. All are welcome, no registration required.
