SCPD Police Blotter for the week of December 24, 2017

Due to the holidays, incidents from Friday, December 22 and Saturday, December 23, have been incorporated in the Blotter for the week of December 24-30, 2017.

Vehicle Theft                                    Location:  Central Expressway and Lafayette Street

An officer conducted a license plate check on a U-Haul vehicle and discovered it had been reported stolen out of San Jose. The vehicle was traveling on Scott Boulevard toward Central Expressway. After a second officer arrived on scene this high risk traffic enforcement stop was initiated.

The male driver and female passenger were detained without incident. The female suspect had rented the vehicle in September, 2017 and failed to return the vehicle on the agreed upon date. Both individuals were arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Petty Theft                                         Location: 3000 Block of Stevens Creek Boulevard

An officer responded to the 3000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard on the report of a petty theft in Macy’s. According to Macy’s Loss Prevention personnel, the arrestee grabbed a blanket from a shelf inside the store and exited without paying for the item. The estimated value of the stolen property was $400.

Upon SCPD arrival, a Records check revealed the arrestee had a felony warrant and was on active probation out of Santa Clara County. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Commercial Burglary                      Location: 3200 Block of Mission College Boulevard

An unknown suspect(s) gained entry into TJ Maxx on the 3200 block of Mission City Boulevard. Once inside, the suspect(s) smashed the glass jewelry case and removed approximately $4,000 worth of items. The suspect(s) remain at large.

Driving Under the Influence          Location: Bowers Avenue and Monroe Street

Units were dispatched to a 3-vehicle injury collision in the area of Bowers Avenue and Cabrillo Avenue. Upon arrival, two previously parked vehicles were blocking the roadway and a third vehicle was on the sidewalk.

The male driver and male passenger were evaluated by the Santa Clara Fire Department. The driver displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication. He failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, including a Preliminary Alcohol Screening test. The results were 0.210 and 0.224 blood alcohol content. The driver was arrested for felony driving under the influence.

The passenger was transported to a local hospital.

Felony Arrest                                    Location:  Homestead Road and Kiely Boulevard

An officer initiated a traffic enforcement stop near the intersection of El Camino Real and Calabazas Boulevard. The male driver stopped momentarily, and then fled the scene. While doing so, the suspect drove down the wrong side of the road on Calabazas Boulevard. The officer initiated a pursuit, and quickly cancelled it due to the high risk to public safety.

Minutes later, officers were deployed to a traffic collision with injuries at Kiely Boulevard and Homestead Road. The vehicle the officer attempted to stop a few minutes prior was involved in the collision. Officers quickly established a perimeter and the suspect was taken into custody to the rear of the shopping center.

A Records check revealed the vehicle was stolen, there was stolen property in the car and the driver had an arrest warrant. He was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Vehicle Theft                                    Location:  3000 Block of Stevens Creek Boulevard

An officer was patrolling a parking lot on the 3000 block of Stevens Creek Boulevard when his attention was drawn to a vehicle in the otherwise empty parking lot. The vehicle was occupied by a male subject. Upon noticing the officer, the subject briskly walked away from the vehicle.

The officer conducted a records check of the license plate and discovered it was reported stolen out of the San Jose. The subject jogged through a gate to a construction site. The officer, also a K-9 handler, utilized the K-9 to track the subject. Once the K-9 began barking, the subject dropped something on the ground, put his hands up and sprawled onto the ground. He was taken into custody.

A Records check revealed the subject was on Post Release Community Supervision and three counts of probation. He was transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

A key was located where the subject had previously dropped something. The key opened the vehicle were the officer originally located the subject. A search of the vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance.

Resisting/Obstructing                     Location:  2600 Block of The Alameda

An officer observed a motorcycle parked on the sideway on the 2600 block of The Alameda. The officer conducted a records check of the license plate and discovered it was expired.

The officer activated emergency lights and the male subject started the motorcycle, drove away and collided with a curb causing the motorcycle to drop on its side. The subject ran away and was caught a short distance later.

The motorcycle was not stolen, however a Records check revealed the subject was on Post Release Community Supervision and had two felony warrants for his arrest. A search of his person yielded items of identity theft and burglary tools. The officer discovered the subject was staying at a nearby motel and conducted a probation search.

A search of the motel room yielded a female subject. A Records check revealed she was on probation and had a felony warrant for her arrest. She also had items of identity theft in her possession. She was arrested. Both subjects were transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.

Counterfeit                                        Location: 2500 Block of El Camino Real

An unknown male subject presented a business on the 2500 block of El Camino Real with a $20 and asked for change. The reporting party accepted the bill and provided change. After the subject left the business, the reporting party realized the bill was a counterfeit. The reporting party located the subject and requested genuine funds. The subject provided the reporting party with $18, and was unable to provide the balance. The reporting party documented the incident with SCPD.

Warrant Arrest                                  Location: El Camino Real and Los Padres Boulevard

An officer made consensual contact with a male subject near the intersection of El Camino Real and Los Padres Boulevard. A Records check revealed the subject had an outstanding $7,500 misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested.

Sex Registrant                                  Location:  3600 Block of El Camino Real

An officer was dispatched to the 3600 block of El Camino Real on the report of a male subject causing a disturbance. A Records check revealed the subject had a felony warrant for his arrest and was out of compliance with his duty to register as a sex offender as required by law. The subject was arrested and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail.
