Senior Center Cinema: Happy Tears
Wednesday, May 23rd, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
Santa Clara Senior Center, 1303 Fremont Street, Room 232
The Health & Wellness Program hosts free movies shown quarterly. May’s movie is Happy Tears (2010), a wacky comedy starring Rip Torn and Demi Moore. Parker Posey and Ellen Barkin play estranged siblings, Jayne and Laura, who are brought back together for a reason that's hard to deny, to care for an aging parent. Joe, their father, seems like a fairly clear-cut case: he obviously belongs in a home. Or does he? Joe presents not so much a problem for Jayne and Laura as an opportunity for their family to grow and reconnect. Join us for some laughs and some thoughts about long term care and family.

Join other people who actually get what you’re going through for some encouragement and ideas to make caring for family a little easier. Call Saraswathi Ram Mohan (Social Worker) at 408-615-3176 to sign up or email her at email@example.com , or just drop in to check it out.
Swim Birthday Parties
If you are looking for a different fun venue for a child’s birthday party this summer, consider the International Swim Center which is available on some weekends. Parties include 90 minutes of non-exclusive swim time, followed by 30 minutes for cake, presents and celebration under a party canopy. Cost includes lifejackets and a staff liaison. For information, call 408-615-3163.
Central Park Lake Algae Bloom & Cleanup
The warm weather, longer days and increasingly large resident flocks of ducks and geese have contributed to an “algae bloom” in the Central Park Lake. City staff are manually removing algae mats and cleaning walkways on a daily basis to reduce the impact of the bird droppings on water quality and to support the lake’s natural bio-filtration system which is operating at maximum capacity.
