The Santa Clara City Library partnered with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to host a Naturalization Ceremony in Central Park on June 29, 2018. .USCIS swore in 83 new U.S. citizens from more than 20 different countries, just in time for them to celebrate their first Fourth of July as Americans!
Congressman Ro Khanna, Santa Clara Vice Mayor Kathy Watanabe and City Librarian Hilary Keith welcomed new citizens. Girl Scout Troop 60053 acted as the color guard for the ceremony. Their presence was especially significant for the Library, as this troop helped start our Arabic collection and storytime at the Central Park Library. A reception was held in the Library after the ceremony, where new citizens applied for passports, received information about social security, registered to vote and everyone ate cake.
