Social Media Not Meant for Police, Fire or Medical Assistance
Many public safety agencies have set up social media profiles, like Facebook, Twitter and Nextdoor, to share information. To some, sending a request for help may seem like a logical way to communicate. However, social media is not an appropriate forum to request police, fire or emergency medical assistance. It is not monitored 24/7 nor does this technology have the resources or redundancies needed in emergency situations.
In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1. Remember, Call if You Can, Text if You Can't! Text to 9-1-1 is ideal for residents who cannot safely dial 9-1-1 in a dangerous situation, those who are deaf/hard of hearing or have a speech disability. Non-emergency situations can be reported by calling (408)615-5580.
