Due to ongoing construction, limited access and safety concerns, the Raymond G. Gamma Dog park will now remain closed until the parks project is completed in Fall 2019. Right now, the City of Santa Clara is constructing the new Reed and Grant Street Sports Park while making dog park improvements, including underground and above ground utilities, site grading, utility, new dog park restroom, paved parking lot and lighting.
The public’s patience is appreciated while the park construction and dog park improvements are being made. In the meantime, the City plans to have a temporary, off leash dog facility, with areas for large and small dogs, located in the low use area of Larry Marsalli Park on Lafayette Blvd. The temporary dog-friendly facility is expected to open in January 2019. It will remain open through the duration of the Reed and Grant Park construction project. This location also has existing paved parking and restroom facilities.
The City asks residents to give their input on additional improvements to be considered for the Raymond G. Gamma Dog Park through an online survey. The community survey will remain open through Monday, Nov. 5. The City’s goal is to include any additional improvements as part of the current construction.
The public’s also invited to attend a community meeting from 4-5 pm, on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Santa Clara Senior Center, Room 232. This is an opportunity to give in-person comments and discuss potential dog park options, such as natural/synthetic turf, mounds/flat, additional area, amenities, as well as operations and maintenance considerations.
