Post Date:03/18/2017 9:00 AM

Law enforcement professionals have carried the Flame of Hope across cities and communities across Austria in preparation for the world’s largest sports and humanitarian event in 2017 - the Special Olympics World Winter Games. The Santa Clara Police Department's Assistant Chief, Dan Winter, was selected by Special Olympics Northern California to serve as a Guardian of the Flame®. He is in Austria proudly representing the Final Leg Team running the torch throughout the country and delivering the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremonies.

Special Olympics has many thousands of competitions around the world every year. Athletes train in 30-plus sports in 169 countries. Every two years, there's a World Games competition that shows off the best this movement has to offer. For many athletes, attending a World Games is the dream of a lifetime.

For almost 2,700 Special Olympics athletes, that dream will come true March 18-24. ESPN will be covering the events following opening ceremonies on Saturday, March 18 at 11:00am. The complete television schedule is attached.
