| To commemorate our 150th anniversary, the
City of Santa Clara published a Sesquicentennial Book entitled
"A Place of Promise, the City of Santa Clara 1852-2002."
The book is a 200 page, coffee table format with many historic
and current photographs of the City and its citizens. Beginning
with the original Native American residents, this volume traces
the development of Santa Clara from its incorporation as a
city in 1852 through its agricultural development in the late
19th century, its early manufacturing endeavors and more recent
industrial growth as part of the Silicon Valley phenomenon.
But it is especially a story of the men and women, those forward-looking
pioneers of many cultures over two centuries, who have given
Santa Clara its special character and its entrepreneurial
verve. It is also a story of schools and churches and civic
organizations, of fraternal and cultural societies, and an
increasingly complex community.
"A
Place of Promise" is now available and is a great
gift for anyone interested in the City of Santa Clara, Santa
Clara Valley and California history. It costs $30.00, which
includes tax. You can purchase it at City Hall or at the Santa
Clara University Bookstore. Please call 615-2450 for information
on ordering. |
