Building Permits
Residents often have thoughts about remodeling or home/business improvements. Building permits are usually a part of such projects. Obtaining the proper permits and inspections can protect you from fire and safety hazards, resale conditions, and contractor difficulties. Please check with the Building Inspection Office at 615-2420 and Engineering Department at 615-3000 for specific requirements when considering an improvement.
 
Neighborhood Conditions

If you see conditions in your neighborhood, like abandoned vehicles, graffiti, cars parked on lawns, or noisy businesses operating out of homes, you can call Code Enforcement for information on what is allowed, and to make complaints. Important phone numbers are as follows:

Planning Department

The Planning Department (615-2450) can also assist with necessary reviews and letters regarding flood zones, verification of zoning, zoning enforcement, certain allowed home business occupations, in a residential neighborhood, noise complaints, and garage sale restrictions. They can provide information on the City’s General Plan, guide you with sign permit applications, and are available with special expertise to consult on proposed remodels and additions to historic properties. The Community Services Division provides a home repair program to homeowners who qualify based on income. Call the Division (615-2490) to find out if you quality for funding assistance to repair your home.

 
Traffic Engineering Division
The Traffic Engineering Division at 615-3000 can answer questions about our traffic control devices (Yield, Stop or Speed Limit signs; traffic signals) and also crosswalks; parking limits; handicapped parking and loading zones. The City adheres very closely to national guidelines which establish minimum criteria before additional traffic control devices are installed. The Traffic Division can also help with questions regarding commuting, ride-sharing, and traffic calming programs
