The book Cemeteries of Santa Clara is a pictorial history compiled by Bea Lichtenstein of the Santa Clara Mission Cemetery and Mission City Memorial Park. Both were founded before the city itself. Santa Clara Mission Cemetery was established by the Jesuit fathers along with Santa Clara College in 1851. Mission City Memorial Park, known simply as the graveyard when it was founded in 1850, once also served as the town dump. It is now a 30-acre cemetery memorializing valley residents of the past 150 years.

You can view "Historic Cemetery Self-Guided Walking Tour," an online brochure in pdf format, for finding pioneer and other interesting graves in Mission City Memorial Park.

The City also maintains another small cemetery, the Agnews Historic Cemetery and Museum.
