Submitting Permit Applications
The first step for every applicant should be to find out what items will be required for the project. Most information can be found under Building Permit Information. Print out a copy of the building permit application. The completed form(s), drawing(s), and fee(s) can then be brought to the Center for submittal. Depending on the type and complexity of the application, the City may:

  • Approve the permit over the counter;
  • Identify additional information needed to continue the process;
  • Route plans to plan checkers for review. When plans are approved, applicants will be notified for permit issuance.

Questions can be made with department personnel by calling individual departments or by sending an email to permitcenter@santaclaraca.gov.

Fax Permits
The Permit Center is offering minor permits by fax to provide a time-saving permit service for customers. The Minor Permit section of this website outlines the procedures and describes projects which can qualify for minor permits by fax. Minor permits may be applied for by using the Minor (FAX) Permit form.
