CASE OF THE WEEK - Driver in Bad Craigslist Transaction Arrested

On June 3, 2017 at 1400 hours, the victim met the suspect in the lobby of a Santa Clara hotel. The victim was selling a Rolex watch the he had advertised on Craigslist. The victim initially met the victim at a bank in San Jose to show the suspect that he was getting cash for the watch. The victim told the suspect he wanted to see a second Rolex that the victim was selling. The victim agreed to get the second Rolex and meet the victim in the lobby of a Santa Clara hotel. The suspect distracted the victim and grabbed a $9,000 Rolex and ran away. The victim gave chase and the suspect turned and pointed a handgun at the victim.

The victim stopped chasing the suspect. A nearby citizen saw the suspect jump in to the backseat of a waiting vehicle. The suspect vehicle then sped away. A nearby citizen saw the chase and the suspect jump into the getaway vehicle. The alert citizen wrote down the license plate number of the suspect vehicle.

Detectives began following up on the case. Video surveillance was reviewed and search warrants were executed. SET Detectives began surveillance on the suspect vehicle.

On July 11, 2017 at 1749 hours, SET Detectives made a vehicle stop on the suspect vehicle in San Jose. Jamari Daron Beverly was driving the suspect vehicle. Beverly is on active probation for carrying a firearm in a public place. A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9mm handgun underneath the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

During the following up investigation, Beverly was determined to be the getaway driver during the robbery. Detectives are following up on leads that may identify the suspect that took the Rolex from the victim.

Beverly was arrested and booked into the County Jail for Robbery, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Violation of Parole, and Conspiracy to Commit a Felony.
