We are excited to announce that the Water Wise House Call Program has gone through a makeover and is now offering a two-part program.
Water Wise Outdoor Survey Program
This free outdoor irrigation survey is offered to single family homes and small multi-family sites (less than ½ acre). During this evaluation, a trained irrigation professional will:
- Evaluate the efficiency of the irrigation system, noting and flagging problems,
- Provide a personalized irrigation schedule, if appropriate,
- Make recommendations for repairs, replacements, and upgrades
- Send a detailed written report after the survey in complete
- Pre-inspect the site for the Landscape Rebate Program, if applicable.
Now is a great time to evaluate your irrigation system and make changes before turning your system back on. Nearly half of a resident’s water use goes to their outdoor irrigation system, so having your irrigation system in good shape can help reduce your water usage. In order to sign up for this program, the site must have at least 1 valve operated irrigation zone. Homes that only use a hose or portable sprinkler to irrigate their landscape will not be eligible. If interested in scheduling an inspection, please visit the Santa Clara Valley Water District's Website or call their conservation hotline at (408) 630-2554.
The DIY Water Wise Indoor Survey Kit
Residents are now able to request a Do-it-Yourself kit to assess your indoor water use. This kit includes a low flow rate bag, dye tablets, and a step-by-step guide to help you complete water use tests, including:
- Flow rate bag for testing shower and sink flow rates
- Dye tablets to test toilets for leaks
- Meter leak tests
- General indoor leak information
The booklet also includes space to record your test results and a form to fill out a request for free water conservation items, such as a toilet flapper, low flow shower head, hose nozzle, or sink aerator. There will also be an online video available on the Santa Clara Valley Water District's website that demonstrates how to do the self-guided indoor water use evaluation.
Free DIY Water Wise Indoor Survey Kits are available at the Water & Sewer Utilities office in City Hall during normal business hours. For more information about this new program, contact the District’s Water Conservation hotline at (408) 630-2554.
Know Your Meter
If you feel that you may have a leak, turn off all water in your house and yard, then check to see if the dial on your water meter is still moving (registering water flow). If so, you may have a leak. To learn more about your meter and how to use it to check for leaks, review the How To Read Your Water Meter document. If you do not feel comfortable checking for a water leak yourself, feel free to call the City of Santa Clara Water Department at (408) 615-2000 to set up an appointment with a technician at no cost.
