The City Council held a joint dinner meeting with the Civil Service Commission.
The council recognized Santa Clara business owner Anna Warren Cebrian of Illusive Comics and Games for her contributions to the community.
High school students participating in the Santa Clara Sister Cities Association exchange program shared their experience during a recent exchange visit to Coimbra, Portugal.
The Cultural Commission made a presentation on upcoming events in April and May, 2019.
The Council heard a presentation on the status of the Patrick Henry Specific Plan and the Freedom Circle Specific Plan and provided staff with feedback. Council requested that the North Vision Plan be brought back to the Council for further discussion.
Council directed the City Manager to review issues related to illegal street racing and sideshow activity including resource needs and modifications to the City Code.
In the interim, the Santa Clara Police Department will provide additional enforcement. The item will return to Council in Summer 2019.
A report on the formation of a new Convention and Visitors Bureau was presented. The Council provided direction to the City Manager to proceed with the formation of a new non-profit CVB organization, that would have an initial nine-member Board of Directors. Council authorized the use of General Fund dollars to start the organization and seek reimbursement from the Tourism Improvement District.
The Council accepted the Salary Setting Commission’s unanimous vote to maintain the current salary level for the Mayor and City Councilmembers from July 1, 2019 through July 1, 2021. The current salary of Councilmembers at $2,000 per month and the Mayor’s at $2,500 per month.
