Education and Experience
Education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in public or business administration or an approved related area, and two (2) years of responsible administrative experience. Some experience in the public sector is desirable.
 
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a professional staff position in the Unclassified Service responsible for supervising the Commercial, Industrial, Public Relations Division of the City's Administrative Services Department. An incumbent in this classification performs staff work of a varied and responsible nature under the general direction of the City Manager, with some responsibility for the follow-through on details of administration.
 
Typical Duties
Under general direction, confers with department heads to convey established policies and practices and to gather information required as a basis for action by the City Manager; is responsible for and supervises the preparation of information directed to the public such as the city calendar, public newsletters, and other such regular or special municipal reports and publications; assists in writing, or otherwise preparing for publication, administrative manuals, news releases, statistical and other reports; coordinates and administers programs directly involving citizen and community groups and maintains, as directed, relations with governmental jurisdictions, organizations, associations and other external groups, making personal appearances as necessary; receives, processes, and attempts to resolve citizen complaints; conducts analytical, organizational, procedural, and other studies and makes appropriate recommendations; provides staff support to the City Manager in evaluation of City budget; may supervise operating units or staff functions as assigned, and performs other work as required.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of: Principles of organization, budget and management; principles of public administration; effective analytical, administrative and supervisory techniques. Good ability to: prepare clear and concise statistical and narrative reports; communicate orally; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; make presentations before groups.
