| Education and Experience |
| Minimum Education Requirements: |
- Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units of academic level
coursework at an accredited college or university Minimum Experience
Requirements:
- Three years of recent full-time paraprofessional library experience,
two years of which have been at the level of Senior Library Assistant
for the Santa Clara City Library or equivalent; or
- Three years of recent full-time paraprofessional library experience
involving public contact and computerized circulation systems,
including two years of recent supervisory experience. Possible
Substitutions:
- Completion of the two year Library Technology Associate of
Arts degree can be substituted for one year of paraprofessional
experience.

| Distinguishing Characteristics |
| This is a paraprofessional
supervisory position in the classified service. The circulation supervisor
position is the highest level in the paraprofessional class in the
Library Department. An incumbent in this classification performs a
variety of duties under general direction, with responsibility for
the follow-through on assigned projects. An incumbent exercises independent
judgement and discretion not of a routine nature in evaluating and
reporting on the work efforts of employees, in recommending personnel
actions. This position is responsible for implementation, development,
coordination, and supervision of circulation services in the department. |

- Under direction performs specialized supervision and paraprofessional
work of considerable difficulty
- Manages circulation services, including supervision of reserves,
customer assistance desks, and Central Library circulation activities
- Schedules, supervises, and evaluates a large staff of paraprofessionals
- Serves as a member of the Division and Library Coordinators'
teams
- Participates in the selection of library paraprofessional staff.
- Develops, implements, coordinates, and interprets departmental
circulation policies, procedures, and services
- Evaluates patron needs for circulation services
- Handles the most complex and sensitive problems involving circulation
procedures, staff, and patrons
- Develops and implements training programs for circulation services,
with an emphasis on the computerized circulation system and customer
assistance.
- Evaluates equipment needs of circulation services
- Acquires price quotes in accordance with established City procedures,
works with vendors, and evaluates performance of products acquired
- Participates in the planning and implementation of computer
systems hardware and software
- Analyzes the effect of computer system software on circulation
routines and troubleshoots minor computer system problems.
- Develops and supervises library cash handling policies and
procedures at the circulation desk
- Recommends appropriate user fees for circulation services
- Participates in the preparation of budget for circulation services,
submits budget requests, and monitors funds in area.
- Assists in the preparation, maintenance, and analysis of circulation
statistical reports, and prepares reports, special studies, and
correspondence as directed.
- Provides assistance at public service desks as needed
- Participates in a variety of committees, meetings, training,
and forums
- Works cooperatively with other staff to coordinate library
services
- Participates in developing library wide policies and procedures
- Develops procedures manuals, establishes objectives, and serves
as a resource person for library management
- Performs other related work as assigned.

| Other Requirements |
- Performs physical tasks, such as lifting and moving library
materials, stooping, reaching, and walking up and down stairs.
- Must be able to lift and carry library materials weighing up
to 25 lbs.
- Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the
job assignment.
