| Graduation from
high school or its equivalent and no experience. |

| Possession of a valid California
driver's license is required. |

| Typical Duties |
| Under general supervision,
gives information and directions to the general public; observes and
reports hazardous conditions, obstructions to traffic, accidents,
and other emergencies; at a fixed post, directs traffic at large public
events and congested situations as assigned; transports department
vehicles for maintenance and repair as assigned; and performs other
work as required. |

| Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities |
| Good ability to: understand
and execute oral and written instructions; be courteous but firm;
maintain effective relations with the general public; analyze situations
and adopt effective courses of action; operate a motor vehicle safely
and according to traffic laws and rules; express oneself clearly and
concisely. Satisfactory ability to: read and understand departmental
policies, rules, and instructions; observe and memorize names, places
and incidents. |
