Education and Experience
Graduation from high school or its equivalent and no experience.
 
License
Possession of a valid California driver's license is required.
 
Typical Duties
Under general supervision, gives information and directions to the general public; observes and reports hazardous conditions, obstructions to traffic, accidents, and other emergencies; at a fixed post, directs traffic at large public events and congested situations as assigned; transports department vehicles for maintenance and repair as assigned; and performs other work as required.
 
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Good ability to: understand and execute oral and written instructions; be courteous but firm; maintain effective relations with the general public; analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action; operate a motor vehicle safely and according to traffic laws and rules; express oneself clearly and concisely. Satisfactory ability to: read and understand departmental policies, rules, and instructions; observe and memorize names, places and incidents.
 
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of a Police Officer or Police Sergeant.
 
Supervision Exercised
None.
 
Special Conditions
Required to work unusual hours. Must be able to provide own vehicle to transport traffic control devices and to travel to assignment location.
