Climate Action Plan Overview

The Planning and Inspection Division and Silicon Valley Power are preparing a community-wide Climate Action Plan (CAP) for the City of Santa Clara. The CAP is an implementation mechanism of the City’s General Plan, adopted in 2010 and will provide goals, policies, and programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, address climate change adaptation, and locally support the goals of Assembly Bill (AB) 32 and Senate Bill (SB) 375.
The City has completed a Government Operations Emissions Inventory and a community-wide Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory, an important first steps in completing the CAP.
The CAP will be a unique document that builds upon existing efforts of City departments, Silicon Valley Power, and businesses and community groups to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and will identify future efforts needed to achieve the goals of AB 32.The CAP will provide performance metrics and tracking mechanisms to monitor future progress towards meeting the City’s greenhouse gas reduction goals.
Community Participation
Community participation is a key part of the CAP. The City will host one community open house workshop and several mobile workshops at a variety of locations. The City will also invite local businesses and community groups to participate in focus groups and stakeholder interviews. Please let us know if you would like to participate in one of these activities. More information about CAP events can be found on the Meetings & Workshops page of this website.
