Single-Family Design Guidelines

The City of Santa Clara has updated the Single-Family Residential Design Guidelines. The Guidelines are performance standards intended to allow flexibility in design while meeting the objectives of Neighborhood Compatibility and Transition Goals and Policies sections of the City’s General Plan. They also address issues such as:

• Neighborhood Compatibility
• Two-story Home Design
• Privacy Protection
• Architectural Design
• Sustainability

The Architectural Review Process Outline gives a concise look at how these Guidelines are used in the City's review process.

The intent of these Guidelines is to provide guidance for homeowners, architects, and designers when considering a new home, remodel, or addition to an existing residence. The Guidelines are intended to encourage the orderly and harmonious appearance of structures and properties; provide fair and equitable treatment to all applicants; maintain property values throughout the City; and encourage the physical development of the City as anticipated by the General Plan.
