Santa Clara Senior Center Collaborations
Our efforts to serve seniors are strengthened significantly through collaborations with a variety of individuals and organizations.
San Jose State University and University of San Francisco
Department of Nursing
SJSU and USF nursing students, under the supervision of the Senior Center's Health & Wellness Registered Nurses, provide services such as: blood pressure screenings, social engagement with seniors and their care givers, and development of resource materials on selected health topics.
San Jose State University
Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences
SJSU Communicative Disorders and Sciences students, under the supervision of a licensed and certified Audiologist/Speech-Language Pathologist, provide free hearing screening events at the Senior Center. These events occur twice a year and are by appointment only. Check the Senior Center Monthly Newsletter for upcoming hearing screening events.
Santa Clara University - "Then and Now" and "A Century Between Us"
Santa Clara Seniors shared some of the most compelling aspects of their lives with undergraduate students from Santa Clara University. SCU students spent more than 16 hours interviewing, conversing, and learning about what commonalities and differences really exist between generations. The students then condensed this rich information, photographs, and life history into short video vignettes.
