The Optimist Club of Santa Clara will be hosting a Bicycle Safety Rodeo on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Scott Lane Elementary School (1925 Scott Boulevard). Registration will take place between 9:00-10:00am. The goal of the event is teach kids about bicycle safety. Our target age groups is Kindergarten through 5th grade. The day will begin with registration and a welcoming. Volunteer bike mechanics will be on hand to conduct a bicycle inspection, including brake check, tire inflation levels, alignment review and helmet adjusted to fit properly. A limited number of helmets will be available for any child who does not have a helmet or a properly fitted one.
The kids will then rotate through three stations; a rules of the road station, an obstacle course station, and a fun bike race station. Each child will be given a free water bottle at the end of the event. The event is sponsored by the Santa Clara Police Athletic League (P.A.L.), the Santa Clara Police Officers’ Association, the Rotary Club of Santa Clara and the Optimist Club of Santa Clara.
