Do you know an adult who can speak English well but needs help with basic reading, writing and/or math?
Each year, Read Santa Clara, the adult and family literacy program of the Santa Clara City Library reaches out to 100 adults who meet with volunteer tutors for two hours each week to strengthen their reading, writing or math skills.
To be a Read Santa Clara learner (student), one must:
- Be 16 years or older (and not in high school)
- Read or write at or below an 8th grade level
- Speak English well
- Be able to meet for tutoring sessions for two hours a week for at least six months
Our services are free and confidential. Our learners can work on whatever reading or writing goals are important to them. They can learn at their own speed.
They work with tutors to learn how to fill out job forms, read to kids, write notes for work, write checks, read health information and more.
We invite those who wish to improve their basic reading, writing and/or math skills to attend this orientation and find out more about our free tutoring program for adults.
