A sigh of relief was heard when the Northside Library was given the approval to proceed with construction following a unanimous City Council vote on Tuesday March 25, 2014. The vote will surely satisfy many residents as they eagerly await the completion of the large city project which was promised to residents over 50 years ago.
The new 17,000 square foot state-of-the-art library, originally scheduled to open in December 2013, will now open by the end of summer 2014. The library was nearly complete when the state’s dissolution of redevelopment agencies (RDA) caused construction to come to a halt. As residents grew upset and frustrated by the hold up, the Library Foundation & Friends Board of Directors worked to build a support structure determined to see the library doors open.
City Council and City Staff have worked diligently with the state to sort out all detrimental issues which stemmed from the dissolution of the RDA. The City of Santa Clara is pleased to announce construction will now recommence.
Please join the Library Foundation and Friends in celebration at the Northside Library this Sunday, April 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for library tours, magician Phil Ackerly and local food trucks. There will be opportunities for family participation in creating time capsule mementoes.
