Welcome Newcomers
Are you new to Santa Clara or new to the Senior Center? Then come to our Welcome Newcomers meeting! We will introduce you to services, programs, and activities available. You will have the chance to meet new friends and tour our facility. Third Thursday of every month at 10:30 am.

Fitness Center & Natatorium (Pools)
The Fitness Center is equipped with 37 specialized pieces of equipment, some of which include treadmills, exercise bikes, rowing machines, a multi-gym weight machine, free weights, an upper-body exerciser, cross-trainers, and much more. Citizens over the age of 50 are invited to use the Fitness Center and Natatorium on a drop-in basis.

The Natatorium consists of three pools: an 83º lap pool, a 92º warm water pool, and a 99º spa. The Natatorium provides an excellent place for seniors to get fit through aquatic exercise.

The Fitness Center and Natatorium are available free of charge to:

  • individuals over the age of 50 who meet City of Santa Clara residency requirements
  • individuals who have applied and been deemed appropriate for the ID fit program
  • Senior Center volunteers who work a minimum of 4 hours per week

Non-residents may use the Fitness Center and Natatorium if accompanied by a Santa Clara resident and for a fee of $10 per day.

Individuals interested in using the Fitness Center and Natatorium must complete an application and show proof of residency (residents only) and return it to the Senior Center front desk.

ID Fit Program
The ID Fit Program is available for individuals 18 and up who have a qualifying disability or permanent medical condition to participate in the open use Fitness Center and Natatorium.  Participants must meet program requirements and register for the program.

Adventures to Go…carefree travel for ages 50 plus

Adventures to Go offers a wide variety of options for travelers 50 years and up. Embark on day trips to different locations throughout northern California. Extended trips to new and exciting destinations in the United States and abroad are also available. Trips are open to Santa Clara residents and non-residents. The monthly travel newsletter, Adventures to Go, travel brochures, detailed itineraries, and registration information are available at the Senior Center.

Let’s Talk Travel!
Fourth Wednesday of the month, 12:30 pm

Join us and Let’s Talk Travel! Learn about our newest trips and receive the latest Adventures to Go newsletter. We also share ideas, interact with others who love to travel, and enjoy presentations by tour specialists and staff.

Immediately after the Let’s Talk Travel session, Santa Clara residents can register for new trips. Non-residents can register on the following Monday.

Trip Availability

All trips are open to Santa Clara Residents and Non-Residents, with priority registration given to residents for new trips released after the Let's Talk Travel session on the fourth Wednesday of the month.  Register early!  Trips fill quickly.  Waitlists are available once trips fill.  Trips not reaching the minimum enrollment required will be cancelled.


Trip itineraries may be modified due to unforeseen circumstances. Every effort will be made to replace the activity/location with a similar one.

Refund Policy

Day/Extended Trips - New Refund Policy in place beginning with January 2010 trips.  Please choose wisely; a trip refund will ONLY be given when a replacement can be found from the Senior Center trip waitlist.  No cancellation fee will be charged.

Extended Trips Through Agencies - Tour Agencies we work with have different refund policies for each trip.  Please see trip fliers for Cancellation Policy details.  If a refund is permitted, requests must be submitted to the Tour Agency by the cancellation date set by the agency as noted under "Cancellation Policy."

Travel Insurance - The Santa Clara Senior Center recommends that you consider travel insurance for your trips.  Check online at or go to a AAA Travel office.

Trip Activity Levels/Special Needs Activity levels listed are offered as a guideline. Trips may include extended periods of walking and/or standing and stairs, or multiple times off and on the motor coach. Travelers with accessibility concerns, special needs, or questions should call the Senior Center office, (408) 615-3170.

Trip Pick-Up/Drop-Off Area

Old Police Station at City Hall, 1541 Civic Center Drive, Santa Clara. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before trip departure. Motor coach will leave promptly at time specified.  Driver gratuity included in price of tour.

Social Ballroom Dancing

Dance lesson, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Ballroom Dance, 7:30 pm - 10:30 pm
Fee (includes dance lesson) DJ $5.00 Live Band $6.00

The Santa Clara Senior Center offers a social dance program that consists of a ballroom dance lesson with open ballroom dancing to follow. Lessons are offered by talented and knowledgeable dance instructors. All levels of dancers are encouraged to attend. Dance music is provided by live bands and DJ’s.  Refreshments are provided.

Labs & Workshops

Computer Lab - 2nd floor

Monday – Friday 7 am - 4:30 pm
Saturday 9 am - 12:30 pm

Note: Senior Center sponsored classes, programs and services have first priority for use of the lab.

The drop-in Computer Lab is open for individuals to surf the Internet, check and send e-mail, and to work on Microsoft Office documents. The Lab offers 13 Dell computers and two laptop internet access spots. Computers are unable to save work, so please provide your own storage device. A printer is available for use in accordance with the guidelines for use.

Santa Clara Adult Education offers computer classes for adults at a low cost. For more information please visit them at or call (408) 423-3500.

Lapidary Lab – 1st floor
Thursday and Friday, 9 am - 1:30 pm
Fee: $1/day

The Lapidary Lab is open to individuals who want to polish rocks to make decorative items such as belt buckles, necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Knowledgeable volunteers are available to help with any questions regarding the lapidary equipment. Users must complete a liability release form and supply their own materials.

Wood Shop – 1st floor
Tuesday and Thursday, 8 am – 12 pm

The Wood Shop is open for working on projects such as building birdhouses, toys, planter boxes, step stools, and more. Machines, nails, and glue are provided, but individuals must supply their own wood. Trained volunteers are available to answer questions and assist with machinery. Projects must be taken home daily.  Users must read the guidelines for use and complete a liability release form.

Bridge anyone? If you love playing bridge or would like to learn, then come to the Wednesday bridge group. All skill levels welcome.

Billiards Room, 2nd floor

Monday – Friday 7 am – 4:30 pm
Saturday 9 am - 11:30 am



The billiards room is equipped with five standard pool tables, pool balls, cue sticks, bridges, as well as a shuffle board table and a dart board. Recreational Billiards Tournaments are scheduled on occasion so friends can get together for a friendly competition.


Tuesdays and Fridays, 12:15 pm - 2:45 pm
$5 for six games

Come join us in the auditorium for all types of Bingo games. Cash prizes for the winners.

Canasta and Pinochle

If you’re busy during the week, come and play on Saturday. Everyone is welcome to join the fun and competitive sprit.

Games On!
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

If you like to play games this is the group for you. You name it we play it: dominos, Mah Jong, Mexican Train, dice, cards, board games and more.

Brain Busters
Monday, 9:00 am - 10:00 am

A health and wellness program designed to support the physical and emotional health of seniors. Group activities may include walking, gentle stretching, and social engagement.

Volunteer Opportunities
The Santa Clara Senior Center relies heavily on volunteers to assist in running many of the programs and services provided to our seniors. Volunteers currently assist as fitness center attendants, lunch servers, and snack bar attendants. Limited volunteer opportunities are available.

The Center is always looking for volunteers who can share their special talents with other seniors. We would love to discuss possibilities with you.
