DEFENDANT: Dynzel Ghram Brown, 19 year old,
Sunnyvale resident

Following an intense investigation by the Santa Clara Police Department, 19 year old Dynzel Ghram Brown of Sunnyvale was recently arrested for shooting an unarmed victim outside a wedding reception in Santa Clara.

The investigation began in the late night hours of Sunday, October 14, 2012 when Brown confronted the adult male victim in the parking lot of 3910 Freedom Circle Drive. After a brief argument, Brown armed himself with the .22 caliber handgun and fired one round into the victim’s arm. Brown fled the scene immediately, and friends of the victim drove him to a hospital. The victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering from the injury. Brown and the victim were acquaintances.

Investigators tirelessly pursued Brown until he self-surrendered at the Santa Clara Police Department on Sunday, October 21, 2012. The Santa Clara County Office of the District Attorney has charged Brown with a felony crime: Penal Code 245(a)(2)—Deadly weapon assault with the use of a gun. Brown was arraigned on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in Santa Clara County Superior Court. The handgun has not been recovered.
