Serve On Commission To Contribute To Quality Of Life

Residents who would like to personally contribute to the quality of life in the City of Santa Clara are encouraged to apply to serve on any of the City’s Board or Commissions. Residents may place their names on a list to be contacted whenever an opening occurs.

Commissions include the Board of Library Trustees, Civil Service Commission, Cultural Commission, Historical & Landmarks Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, Senior Advisory Commission and Youth Commission. There is also a Housing Rehabilitation Loan Committee, ADA Advisory Committee, Bicycle Advisory Committee and other committee opportunities to serve.

The City of Santa Clara currently has vacancies on two Commissions: Civil Service Commission and the Parks & Recreation Commission

The deadlines to receive applications for each commission, interview dates and times are as follows:

Parks & Recreation Commission
Deadline to apply May 23, 2014, 5 p.m.
Interview dates & times June 10, 2014, 6 p.m.

Civil Service Commission
Deadline to apply May 23, 2014, 7 p.m.
Interview dates & times June 10, 2014, 7 p.m.

Interviews for Parks & Recreation Commission will held in the City hall Reception Lobby and the Civil Service Commission will occur in the Council Chambers during the regularly scheduled Council meeting.

  • The 5-member Civil Service Commission advises the City Council on matters related to Civil Service rules and regulations, and acts as a Board of Review to hear petitions by Civil Service employees and applicants. The Commission generally meets the second Monday of every other month at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers.
  • The 7-member Parks & Recreation Commission provides advice on matters regarding parks, recreation, playgrounds and entertainment. This Commission generally meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Staff Conference Room.
