Arrests Made in Camino Karaoke Homicide

Victims:(Deceased) – Tony Hua, age 20. Resident of San Jose.
Suspect #1: (In Custody) – Huy Hoang Le, age 25, DOB: 09/10/82, 5’4”, 110 lbs., black hair, brown eyes. Resident of San Jose.
Suspect #2: (In Custody) – Tu Auh Vo, age 25, DOB: 08/10/82, 5’3”, 127 lbs, black hair, brown eyes. Resident of San Jose.

On Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at 2:53 A.M., Santa Clara Police Department officers responded to multiple calls of a person down in front of 3378 El Camino Real, Camino Karaoke. Arriving officers located Tony Hua in the parking lot with a single gunshot wound to the head. Hua was transported immediately to Valley Medical Center where he died later in the day.

An exhaustive investigation has been ongoing since the discovery of the crime. Detectives learned that there had been two separate groups of people renting Karaoke rooms. A small fight broke out inside the business between members of the two groups. The two groups exited the business at closing time and the conflict continued in the parking lot. Huy Le removed a handgun from his waistband and shot Tony Hua once in the head. Le, Tu Vo, and a 17-year-old female fled the scene in a vehicle. The two groups did not know each other prior to the incident and it does not appear to be gang related.

Detectives determined that Le and Vo fled to Garden Grove, California. With assistance from Vo, Le boarded a plane at Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday, April 9th, in an attempt to flee to Viet Nam. Vo was arrested by the Garden Grove Police Department for being an accessory to Le's escape.

Santa Clara PD Detectives determined Le’s whereabouts while he was on a brief layover in Taipei, en route to Viet Nam. Detectives contacted the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service and the Taiwanese government for assistance. Both cooperated fully and immediately arranged for Le to be removed from his connecting flight as it was preparing to depart and detained in Taipei based on a homicide warrant obtained by the Santa Clara Police Department. Two Detectives immediately traveled to Taipei, took custody of Le, and escorted him back to the United States. They returned the afternoon of Friday, April 11th.

Le was processed at the Santa Clara Police Department and later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
