Santa Clara, Calif. - August 30, 2006 -
Visit Paramount’s Great America and learn how to safeguard your family on Sunday October 8, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. City officials will conduct the opening ceremonies for the kick-off activities of National Fire Prevention Week.
In an effort to prevent a major cause of home fires this year's national theme for Fire Prevention Week is "Prevent Cooking Fires…Watch What you Heat".
Visitors to Paramount’s Great America will learn to focus on how to cook safely, check and change their smoke detector batteries, and develop a home fire escape plan for their home. Children will also have the opportunity to see smoke, to hear the sound of a smoke detector, to feel a warm door and practice escaping out the window of the city’s Fire Safety Trailer.
There will be exciting exhibits of modern and antique firefighting equipment. Displays from organizations including Valley Medical Center Burn Unit and Emergency Department, American Red Cross, Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation, and the Santa Clara Fire Department will educate park visitors.
For the past 19 years, the Santa Clara Fire Department has teamed up with Paramount's Great America to kick off this national event and promote fire and life safety.Always remember to test your smoke detector at least once a month and make sure you have at least two ways out of each bedroom.
