Santa Clara seeks Residents Opinions through Online Survey

Survey Deadline Extended to February 5, 2006 at Midnight

Santa Clara, Calif. – January 19, 2006– Santa Clara City residents are invited to participate in an online survey designed to gauge public opinion about a variety of community issues, including their trust in government. The survey is being conducted by two Santa Clara University faculty members as part of the City's Ethics and Values program.

Any City resident age 18 and older can log on anytime before 12 midnight on February 5, 2006 and complete the survey at
http://itrs.scu.edu/tshanks/city, to answer 37 questions. Randomly selected households were mailed a letter of invitation with a survey passcode to create a scientific sample of the survey results.

It is estimated that each respondent will spend about 20 minutes completing the survey form. Surveys are anonymous. Topics include rating specific City services, awareness of the City's Code of Ethics and Values, and feedback about elections and candidate behavior.

"We expect that this research will provide the City with valid, reliable and objective information necessary to complete current City Council goals and help the City to plan for the future," said Dr. Shanks who serves as the City's ethics consultant. Once analyzed, survey results are expected to be posted on the City's website in March.
