Santa Clara, Calif. – March 9, 2005 – The City of Santa Clara currently has one vacancy on the International Exchange Commission for the term ending June 30, 2006. The deadline to receive applications for the commission is Wednesday, April 20, 2005 at 5 p.m., with the interviews to be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Interviews will be held in the Reception Lobby Area of City Hall.
The International Exchange Commission consists of seven (7) members, and makes recommendations to the City Council on programs/activities to encourage educational, cultural, sports, technical and governmental exchanges to help acquaint citizen of Santa Clara with cultural and political diversity abroad. The Commission works with the Santa Clara Sister Cities Association, an independent non-profit organization and on matters pertaining to international exchange with special emphasis on encouraging and coordinating activities with Santa Clara's two sister cities: Coimbra, Portugal and Izumo, Japan. The Commission generally meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 1500 Warburton Avenue, Santa Clara.
The City is also seeking residents who may be interested in serving on any of the City’s nine boards or commissions, or a City committee. Your name can be placed on a mailing list, and you will be notified when vacancies occur. The commissions/committee are: Board of Library Trustees, Civil Service Commission, Cultural Advisory Commission, Historical & Landmarks Commission, International Exchange Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, Planning Commission, Senior Citizens Advisory Commission, Youth Commission, and the Housing Rehabilitation Loan Committee.
