Agilent Technologies, Santa Clara University Commit to Renewable Energy

Agilent Technologies and Santa Clara University have joined Santa Clara Green Power, a program offered by Silicon Valley Power in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. These partnerships represent the largest green power commitments since the program was started in November of 2004.

Renewable power commitments from these two corporate customers – 1,608 megawatt-hours annually each – will provide environmental savings equivalent to the planting of 217 acres of forest or the removal of 140 cars from the road for a year.

Santa Clara Green Power provides a renewable energy option–a mix of 97.5% wind and 2.5% solar energy credits–to Santa Clara’s residential, commercial and industrial customers. On behalf of Santa Clara Green Power’s partners, Silicon Valley Power purchases renewable energy credits from newly constructed wind farms and solar photovoltaic projects located within California that earn credits for each kilowatt-hour they produce.

A portion of Agilent’s and Santa Clara University’s Santa Clara Green Power rate will support new solar facilities in the City.

Santa Clara utility customers can enroll in Santa Clara Green Power by signing up through the secure website at www.siliconvalleypower.com, sending an email that includes customer name, address, account and phone number to green@siliconvalleypower.com or by calling (408) 244-SAVE (7283).
