- Garbage should be kept in the black cart provided by Mission
Trail Waste Systems (MTWS), and the guidelines on how to
set out your materials are shown under "The Basics of the
Garbage and Clean Green Program".
- Single-family garbage rates are based on the size of cart
that you request from MTWS. For Garbage rates call Santa
Clara Municipal Utilities at (408) 615-2300.
- To find out more information about Recycling
and Donating items you have, just click the words. Or
sign up for the City-Wide
Garage Sale in August.
- Household hazardous waste is not allowed within
your garbage. Please separate your yard waste into the Clean
Green cart. Please recycle whenever possible.
- Examples of household hazardous waste are: paint, automotive
fluids, cleaners, solvents, batteries, propane, fertilizers,
pesticides, and wood preservatives
- Please dispose of household hazardous waste properly by
setting up an appointment to drop-off your materials with
the County
Wide Household Hazardous Waste Program (CWHHWP). Or
if you have any questions about hazardous waste contact
the County at: (408) 299-7300.
- For Business/Commercial handling and helpful tips
for storage, and use of Hazardous Waste, go to Santa
Clara Fire Department Hazardous Materials Division (SCFDHMD),
or contact SCFDHMD at (408) 615-4960.
- For Business/Commercial Hazardous Waste Disposal
information, go to County
of Santa Clara Department of Environmental Health (CSCDEH),
or contact CSCDEH at (408) 299-6930.
- Residents are limited to 5 gallons or 50 pounds of hazardous
waste per vehicle. If you have more than the allowable amount,
then you may bring the additional hazardous waste in two
or more cars or in two or more trips.
- Proof of City of Santa Clara residency (driver's license,
utility bill, California identification card, etc.) will
be required.
- The CWHHWP will not accept the following:
cathode ray tubes (computer & television monitors), ammunition,
explosives, reactives, radioactive materials, or containers
larger than five gallons. To dispose of the items listed
above, please call the Street Dept. Corporation Yard at
(408) 615-3080.
- You can dispose of used batteries through
the City of Santa Clara's Residential Household Battery
Disposal Program. Residents may bring worn-out household
batteries to any Santa Clara Fire Station from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m., seven days a week. For Fire Station locations or
questions, contact the Street Department Corporation Yard
at (408) 615-3080.
