Silicon Valley Reads: OFFSITE Agnews Museum Tour - History of Caring and Compassion

  • Date: 03/07/2018 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

In 1885, the Agnews Residential Facility was established by the California State Legislature as a neuropsychiatric institution for the care and treatment of the mentally ill. It was considered a leader in adopting progressive treatments of mental illness and later became a resource for developmentally disabled.

Please join the Library and former Agnews Developmental Center staff member and current museum volunteer Kathleen Lee for a special tour of the Agnews Historic Cemetery & Museum at 1250 Hope Drive in Santa Clara. The tour will begin at the museum at 10 a.m.

This program includes a walking tour of the museum grounds as Kathleen Lee discusses the history of the Agnews State Hospital, later the Agnews Developmental Center. Lee will also share stories of caring and compassion from other groups in the Santa Clara community and the Bay Area.

Space is limited for the walking tour, so please register or join the waitlist on Eventbrite if you plan to attend.
