IRINA RAICU

Director, Internet Ethics Program

Markkula Center for Applied Ethics

Irina Raicu is the director of the Internet Ethics program at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics. She is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (U.S.) and was formerly an attorney in private practice. Her writing has appeared in a variety of publications, including U.S.A. Today, MarketWatch, Slate, theHuffington Post, the San Jose Mercury News, and Re/Code. Raicu is a graduate of SCU's School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree in English from U.C. Berkeley, as well as a master's degree in English and American Literature from San Jose State University.

AHMED AMER

Associate Professor Computer Science and Engineering

Santa Clara University

Ahmed Amer is associate professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Santa Clara University and Emerging Issues Fellow at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara. His work includes the intersection of technology and society, and in particular, the ethical and social issues involving data storage and management.

Dr. Amer’s research focuses on systems topics, particularly storage systems, operating systems, and distributed systems. His work also includes alternative and upcoming storage technologies, and their most practical, effective, and resilient applications.
