MenuBios - Captain Luis Martin
Luis Martin began his law enforcement career at age 16 as a volunteer Police Explorer at Watsonville Police Department. After five years of volunteering in his community, Luis was hired as a Police Officer by Watsonville Police Department. He spent the next five years protecting the citizens of Watsonville.
In 2006, Luis was hired by the City of Santa Clara as a Police Officer. He worked as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer and Detective in our Specialized Crimes Action Team—undercover narcotics unit.
Luis was promoted to Sergeant in 2013. As a Sergeant, he supervised teams in the Field Operations Division, including the Field Training Program and the Bicycle Patrol Unit. Luis was later assigned to the Investigations Bureau where he was a Detective Sergeant investigating and supervising persons crimes cases. Luis later became the Detective Sergeant for the department’s Specialized Crimes Action Team where he supervised sensitive investigations.
Luis has a Bachelor of Science degree and is a graduate of the Drug Enforcement Agency’s Drug Unit Commanders Academy leadership school in Quantico, Virginia.
Luis later supervised the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team working regional investigations with local, county, state and federal public safety partners.
In March of 2019, Luis was promoted to Lieutenant. He was initially assigned to the Field Operations Division as a Watch Commander and was the Filed Training Program Lieutenant. He was later selected as the Special Operations Division Lieutenant where he and his team are responsible for all major events in the City, including Levi’s Stadium. Luis also oversees the EOD, Canine Unit and Reserve Officer Unit.
In 2020, Luis was selected as the Acting Captain of the Special Operations Division and officially became fulltime Captain of this same division in September of 2021.
