Council Special Meeting - Study Session on Santa Clara Sustainable

Project on former BAREC project site (90 N. Winchester Blvd)

  • Date: 11/29/2016 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Core will present the latest project plans for Santa Clara Sustainable, answer council questions, and the public will provide comment. The meeting will be held in Council Chambers, Santa Clara City Hall, 1500 Warburton Avenue from 5-7 p.m.

The meeting is purely informational and the Council is not expected to take any official action outside of providing city staff additional direction.

Santa Clara Sustainable connects contemporary urban living with Santa Clara's agricultural past. The project, which is a unique public-private partnership with the City of Santa Clara, will house people of all incomes side-by-side, and includes a dedicated below-market rate component for seniors 62 years-old and over, senior veterans, and other groups that often face displacement. Santa Clara Sustainable's working farm will be a new community gathering place and draw neighbors to its agricultural center and market, contemplative spaces, walking paths, and programs operated by local non-profit partners.

Since introducing this first-of-its-kind urban farm concept nearly two years ago, the Core team has met with interested neighbors, community leaders, and public officials, and held five public meetings where attendees were invited to participate in design and programming charrettes, provide feedback to site plans, and ask questions of the project team and architects.

At the study session, the Core team will share the results of its outreach and show how the design has evolved since its inception. Core expects to submit the formal application soon, which will advance the project into the environmental review process and the next phase of public outreach. For more information about the study session or the project, please send questions or comments via scsustainable@thecorecompanies.com or contact the City Manager's Office at (408) 615-2210.
