The City of Santa Clara is dedicated to environmental sustainability and climate action through community programs, projects, partnerships and policy development. To build upon a history of environmental protection and solidify commitment to this work, the Santa Clara City Council added a Sustainability Strategic Pillar, entitled Promote Sustainability and Environmental Protection, as one of Seven City Council Policy Priorities.

The City’s Sustainability Program focuses on initiatives and solutions that incorporate the following guiding principles:

  • Collaboration and Partnerships – Expand perspectives, possibilities and reach through collaboration, influence and support
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Practice inclusionary principles when developing sustainability services, projects and programs, and when engaging the public in environmental dialog
  • Leadership – Establish environmental policy that drives local change and supports broader local, regional and national sustainability and climate solutions
  • “Multisolving” Strategy– Achieve positive quantitative and qualitative impacts across various sectors of the community by developing solutions that address multiple challenges through singular actions.
