Additional Community Meetings: Potential Zoning Code Changes to Address Overcrowding in Residences

The City of Santa Clara is hosting additional community meetings on May 16, 2019 and May 29, 2019 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the Santa Clara City Council Chambers to share potential approaches for modifying the Zoning Ordinance. The Zoning Ordinance regulates how properties can be built and used in the city. These upcoming meetings will present information presented at the Zoning Code Update meeting held at the Senior Center on April 29, 2019.

 Topics of discussion:

  • Replacing the term “boarding house” in the Zoning Code and more precisely creating limits on the number of individuals who can occupy a residence in addition to the main household.
  • Creating a minimum required percentage of total common habitable area, which could be in the form of living room, kitchen, dining room or other space that is accessible to all individuals in a residence.

Please note that both these meetings will also be shown live on Santa Clara City Television (Comcast channel 15) and livestreamed on the City’s YouTube channel and Facebook page.
