MISSION: Creative Writing Workshop

Monthly creative writing workshop the first Wednesday of each month from 6-7:30pm! This will give participants the opportunity to bring in their own, original pieces of fiction, share their work, improve writing skills and meet other local writers!

Workshop details:

Please bring a piece of your own writing to be shared/critiqued. It can be a short story, a chapter of your novel, a scene… whatever you’d like to share!
Limit your selection to no more than 3-4 pages (900-1200 words). This will allow enough time for participants in small groups to read and provide feedback on your writing.
We’ll divide up into groups of 3-4 people, depending on how many attendees show up and get to workshoppin’! We'll take a look at some of the basic, creative writing 101 elements: character, setting, conflict, etc. and then provide constructive feedback for your fellow writers.
Don’t have a piece to share? Don’t worry! You can either try a word sprint exercise on your own at home (which I highly recommend doing! Here’s a link to some word sprint tools: http://wordquill.com/top-resources-for-word-sprints/ or you can just set a timer and start writing on your own!) or we can begin the session with one.
All writing levels are welcome! We only ask that participants are over the age of 16.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at scastro@santaclaraca.gov otherwise: let’s dust off those keyboards, grab a pen and get to writing!
