Starting on January 9th, Mission Branch Library will begin holding a monthly sensory storytime.
Sensory Storytime is a fun and interactive storytime designed for children ages 3 and up with autism and/or sensory challenges. It involves books, songs, movement, and play that incorporate the five senses. It differs from a normal storytime by using a picture schedule to help transition from one activity to the next, providing fidgets and allowing movement for children seeking sensory stimulation, and limiting the number of participants to create a calmer environment. The storytime will last for 20-30 minutes followed by 30 minutes of open play and sensory stimulating activities.
Due to the limited size of these programs, registration will be mandatory. If interested in attending or to find out more information, please contact Mission Branch Library's Program Coordinator, Justin Wasterlain, at jwasterlain@santaclaraca.gov .
