Trash in creeks can eventually land on California’s coastline and ultimately wind up in our bays and the ocean, impacting wildlife and their habitat. Volunteers throughout our state will join efforts and participate in California Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 16 to clean areas around local waterways. The City of Santa Clara will host two locations in Santa Clara. Cleanup takes place from 9:00 a.m. – noon. Registration opens in August. For more information and to register, visit cleanacreek.org.
About Coastal Cleanup Day
Coastal Cleanup Day is an international day of action to protect our oceans, watersheds, and wildlife from trash and debris. This massive volunteering effort has an astounding impact on many of our local natural habitats and communities. In 2019, the Ocean Conservancy reports that nearly 800,000 volunteers collectively removed more than 20 million pieces of trash from beaches and waterways around the world.
