ONLINE - Psychopathology: A brief introduction to mental illness

  • Date: 09/02/2020 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Location: ONLINE

How do we determine what a mental illness is, and how do we "get" a mental illness? In this talk, Dr. Raila will introduce the "three D's" of mental illness (distress, deviance, and dysfunction) that help us broadly define it, and then go into more detail about a few specific illnesses (such as bipolar disorder and OCD) to explore them as examples.

Speaker: Dr. Hannah Raila is a clinical psychologist and postdoctoral research fellow at Stanford University. There, she works in a lab that studies OCD and hoarding disorder - including developing a new virtual reality (VR) intervention for hoarding disorder. She has clinically specialized in treating OCD, anxiety, and depression.
