On January 20, 2022 at 5:00PM (PDT) on Zoom the Santa Clara City Library is proud to present this interview with Tien Nguyen and Diep Tran, the co-authors of the celebrated The Red Boat Fish Sauce Cookbook!

We will talk about their careers in the culinary world, how they came to work with the renowned company, how they are helping to dispel the misconceptions about this umami enhancing ingredient, the future of the global food landscape and so much more!

Bios:

TIEN NGUYEN has been writing about food and culture for over a decade. She is the co-author of three books: the New York Times bestseller L.A. Son: My Life, My City, My Food with chef Roy Choi, which was Anthony Bourdain’s launch title for his eponymous imprint at Ecco; Flavor Bombs: The Umami Ingredients That Make Taste Explode with restaurateur Adam Fleischman; and The Red Boat Fish Sauce Cookbook, one of NPR’s 2021 Books We Love.

She was previously the Senior Food Writer for L.A. Weekly, and her work also has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Lucky Peach, L.A. Taco, Interview, and Jarry, among other publications.

DIEP TRAN, the former chef and owner of Good Girl Dinette in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. She has been featured in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Lucky Peach, Saveur, the Netflix series Ugly Delicious and KCET's Migrant Kitchen. Her published work and recipes have appeared on NPR’s The Salt, LA Weekly, Los Angeles Times, and New York Times.

Since closing her award-winning restaurant, she joined Red Boat Fish Sauce as its R&D Chef. She also co-wrote The Red Boat Fish Sauce Cookbook, which was named one of NPR’s Books We Love.
