On February 7, 2023, the City of Santa Clara lifted the local emergency ratified by the Council on March 17, 2020, related to COVID-19. The local emergency for the City of Santa Clara was lifted in accordance with Government Code Section 8630 by Resolution 23-9191. 

County of Santa Clara

The County of Santa Clara administered 1.9 million vaccinations since 2020 and was the most vaccinated large county in the country following the initial release of COVID-19 vaccines, the County of Santa Clara has demobilized its COVID-19 mass vaccination and mass testing sites as of February 28, 2023.

COVID-19 State of Emergency Has Ended

The County of Santa Clara Public Health Department issued a press release announcing that indoor masking will no longer be required beginning March 2, 2022.  As of January 4, 2023, face masks are no longer required to be worn in non-healthcare County facilities. 

City of Santa Clara aligns our safety protocols with the County, masking (indoors and outdoors) will no longer be required, regardless of vaccination status.  Employees may continue to wear a mask if they choose. This applies to employees and the public. Surgical masks will be available for employees and the public at public entrances.
