The Code Enforcement Team provides proactive code enforcement in the area around Santa Clara University in partnership with the University and the Santa Clara Police Department.

Common Code Violations Brochures

The City's brochures on Understanding Common Code Violations - University Area is used to educate those living in the University area about the most common violations that code enforcement responds to. These brochures are handed out during the Annual Walkabout and throughout the year as code enforcement staff interacts with the community. You can view the brochures below.

Notification of Violations

If a violation occurs you may be notified by an in-person verbal request, a mailed letter detailing the violation, or a white door tag. All three of these notification methods are official notices that are used to document and track violations and administer future citations. Citations may be issued without prior warning for repeat violations. If you receive a white tag, shown below, it will indicate the violation, when (day and time) the violation must be correct by, and how to contact us.

Annual Walkabout

The Annual Walkabout is conducted once a year by Santa Clara University staff and students, with participation by City of Santa Clara Code Enforcement and Police Department staff. During the Walkabout, groups made up of a representative of each of the aforementioned groups go door to door and educate students on how to be good neighbors. Specifically, the Planning Division Code Enforcement focuses on common zoning infractions that can trigger a citation from the City and the Street Department Code Enforcement provides information on storm drain violations.

Neighborhood-University Relations Committee (NURC)

The Neighborhood-University Relations Committee (NURC) was established in 1990 and created a forum for ongoing communication and problem solving among City officials, neighborhoods, property owners and Santa Clara University officials and students.

NURC meetings are held three (3) times annually on Monday evenings during the Santa Clara University academic year. Meetings are open to the public. Dates, times, and agendas are posted online at www.santaclaraca.gov. All are welcome to join!

Report a Concern

The MySantaClara app is the most effective way to report issues and concerns. In order to report Code Enforcement issues please submit your request via MySantaClara located on the City’s website or by downloading the MySantaClara App from your mobile device.

Through MySantaClara, you can simply snap a photo, add the location, and send your request directly to us. Once a request is submitted, it will automatically be routed to the appropriate department. Through MySantaClara, you will be notified of the status of your request and completion date. When you submit your complaint via MySantaClara you can track your complaint online, get email updates, and email the assigned personnel.
