Question: Why can’t I report other types of crimes using this system?
Answer: Only crimes that have no suspects, are not in progress and do not involve injury can be reported this way. This is for the safety of everyone involved.
Question: What if I prefer to speak to an officer face to face?
Answer: Individuals can come to the Police Building with questions for an on-duty Police Officer, to report non-emergency incidents, have a mechanical violation signed off, obtain a copy of a Police Report, drop off unwanted or expired over the counter and/or prescription drugs and file a commendation, inquiry or complaint. Crimes in progress and emergencies should be reported immediately by calling 9-1-1, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
If you are the victim of a crime that occurred in the City of Santa Clara, you can also complete and submit your initial Crime Report online.
Question: What do I do if online incident reporting is not right for me?
Answer: If your incident is an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately. If non-emergency call 408-615-5580.
Question: What if this happened in another city can I file a report using this system?
Answer: No, If a crime took place outside of the City of Santa Clara please call the Police Department for that city.
Question: What if this happened on a state Freeway?
Answer: If this took place on a state Freeway please call the Highway Patrol Office nearest you.
Question: What is a known suspect?
Answer: A known suspect is when you or someone else knows the person or where to find the person who committed the crime or the license plate number of the vehicle the suspect(s) were in.
