What can you do to minimize the risk of flooding?

  • Never blow or rake leaves into the street as they can clog storm drain catch basins.
  • Keep an eye on your neighborhood storm drain catch basin. Yard waste, leaves and soil can also obstruct storm drains and prevent stormwater from being properly drained.

Storm drains lead to creeks, and trash and debris in creeks can block the flow of water and cause flooding. Help us keep creeks flowing by reporting downed trees, blockages or illegal dumping:

  • Report a spill, dumping or blockage in storm drains, contact the public works department at 408-615-3080 during business hours or 408-615-5640 after hours. You can also report these issues via MySantaClara
  • Report downed trees, blockages or illegal dumping along creeks to the Water District’s Watershed Hotline: 1-408-630-2378 or through Access Valley Water, the district’s  online customer service portal.

The City's Municipal Code Chapter 13.20.030 and 13.20.060 prohibits the dumping of debris into the City's storm drain system.  See Storm Drains, for more information about flooding and storm drains.

Parts of City are at risk to street flooding during smaller storm events. View the Storm Drain Master Plan.
