About the Project
The City of Santa Clara will be installing bicycle facilities on Bassett Street from Agnew Road to Laurelwood Road, including three speed humps on Bassett Street from Agnew Road to Chestnut Street for a bicycle boulevard. View the project area map and additional documents below.
- The Bassett-Laurelwood Bike Lane project was approved at the May 7, 2019 City Council meeting (Report to Council 19-252). This project was identified in the City's Bicycle Plan Update 2018 and would allow the use of alternative modes of travel for the community within Santa Clara.
- In March 2021, the City mailed letters to properties along Bassett Street to notify the public of potential removal of street parking along the east side (railroad) side of Bassett Street.
- In September 2021, the City completed a parking study.
- On December 15, 2021, the City held the first Community Meeting.
- On March 16, 2022, the City held the second Community Meeting.
- On May 24, 2022, the City Council approved parking restrictions along Bassett Street between Chestnut Street and George Street. The parking restrictions will go into effect once Construction begins.
- On August 25, 2022, the City released a Request for Proposals for Engineering Design services to prepare bid documents for the Department of Public Works bidding of the Bassett-Laurelwood Bicycle Lane Project.
- In November 2022, the City selected Wilsey Ham, Inc. to assist with the design of the Bassett-Laurelwood Bicycle Lane Project.
Updates
In May 2023 through January 2024, the City performed public outreach to property owners and occupants along Bassett Street between Agnew Road and Chestnut Street regarding potential speed humps. Public outreach consisted of mailings to property owners and occupants, and in-person visits to properties along Bassett Street.
In February 2024, the City selected O’Grady Paving, Inc. as the contractor for the Bassett-Laurelwood Bike Lane Project.
In February and March 2024, the City mailed letters to property owners and occupants notifying them that the City will be moving forward with the construction of three speed humps between Agnew Road and Chestnut Street, and that parking restrictions will go into effect between Chestnut Street and George Street once construction begins.
The City anticipates construction to begin in April 2024, at which time the parking restrictions approved by City Council on May 24, 2022, Resolution 22-9091, will go into effect.
