About the Project

The City of Santa Clara is preparing a Master Plan (Plan) for the development and construction of three trail corridors, that are within its city limits, Calabazas Creek, Saratoga Creek, and the Hetch-Hetchy right-of-way. The primary objective of the Plan is to serve as a blueprint for the implementation of the trails.

The Plan aims to further the recommendations provided in the City of Santa Clara, Creek Trail Network Expansion Feasibility Study (Study). The Study evaluated the viability of constructing creek trails along the three corridors and provided course of action information for development of the trails.

The first trail in the Plan will be along Calabazas Creek, which connects from the regional Bay Trail just north of Highway 237 and travels south approximately 5 miles to Benton Street, where it will connect to future bike lanes. The trail also includes access to Mission College and a proposed bicyclist-pedestrian bridge over Highway 101.

The second trail, approximately 2 miles, will run closely to Saratoga Creek and starts on Cabrillo Avenue between Bowers Park and the City's Youth Activity Center. It runs south through Central Park, connecting to Homeridge Park just south of Homestead Road, and ending at Forbes Avenue.

The Hetch Hetchy corridor is part of the regional water system owned and operated by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), delivering water via underground pipelines to several counties in the Bay Area. Within Santa Clara, this corridor runs east-west for 2 miles starting at the connection to the proposed Calabazas Creek Trail at the City of Sunnyvale border on the west and extending to the existing Guadalupe River Trail at the City of San Jose border.

The Plan will ensure that these corridors are sustainable, accessible, and meet the needs of the community.

Updates

The City plans to have public meetings for each study corridor in late 2024.
