  The City of Santa Clara takes water waste seriously. Water Service and Use Rules and Regulations are located in City Municipal Code 13.15.080 Section 1C, summarized below.   
 
The City aims to prevent water waste and achieve substantial reductions in potable water use by all Santa Clara customers.
 
PERMANENTLY PROHIBITED:Don't use open hose with running water. Use hose end nozzle with automatic shut off
  • Outdoor watering between the hours of 9AM and 6PM 
  • Outdoor watering during or within 48 hours of measurable rainfall
  • Outdoor watering that creates runoff onto sidewalks and gutters
  • Washing any vehicle without an operating automatic shut-off valve
  • Washing any paved surface like driveways or sidewalks 
  • Filling fountains or other decorative water features without a recirculation pump
  • Water waste from defective plumbing or irrigation system
  • Irrigating landscapes of newly constructed homes and buildings in a manner inconsistent with regulations established by the California Building Standards Commission and the Department of Housing and Community Development

  Report Water Waste with ONE of these methods:  
 
  • Complete the online Water Waste Report
  • Submit a request to report water waste via the MySantaClara mobile app.
  • Call the City of Santa Clara Water Department at (408) 615-2000 during regular business hours.
 
  In the interest of efficiency, please use only one of the above to report each case of water waste. All methods go to the same team of City staff for investigation.
